Project Detail
This seawall and walkway curve continuously along the beach at the base of ocean bluffs for a length of 3200 ft. The work included 7 new beach access stairways and the repair of 3 existing stairways extending down the bluffs. The wall foundation was below sea level and was keyed down an additional 4 feet into hard sandstone. The foundation work required continuous dewatering using surface pumps and the work area was protected from the surf with sand berms that required constant maintenance. The cast in place concrete wall was difficult to form since it was a series of forward and reverse curves intermixed with straight sections and the wall varied in height from 12 feet to 17 feet. An innovative articulated form system, constructed of steel and wood, was job designed and built and was successfully used to form the various curved and straight sections of the wall. Approximately 8000 cy of concrete was placed on this project.
